His Holiness Pope Tawadros II was received today by Lebanese President Michel Aoun. His Holiness was joined by His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and the Orient, and Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia, Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

The invitation came following a meeting between the three Fathers, who together lead the Middle East’s Orthodox Churches.

Michel Aoun is President of the Lebanese Republic, where most Christians are Maronite, however, where there is a sizeable Orthodox community.

The Lebanese President commented on twitter about the event, saying that the history of the Christians of the Orient is a constant living in danger, and yet we are still carrying on.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros will head on to the Vatican after his visit to Lebanon.
